The Dark Souls series is widely used to compare difficult games. A game must pass the Dark Souls test to be hard to beat. Developers intentionally made the game unbeatable instead of increasing difficulty levels. Soulslike games continue Dark Souls' heritage.

Soulslikes are growing thanks to FromSoftware and Team Ninja. With Demon's Souls remake and Elden Ring at the top, Soulslike isn't going anywhere. Players have a good choice with fresh IPs and genre challengers, but they must brace for nightmare boss encounters.
